About Us
History
Fundex Games, Limited was founded in 1986 by Pete Voigt and his son Chip. As sales representatives, Pete and Chip had been involved in the launch and sales of UNO, currently the top selling card game in the world.
Fundex’s first product was Phase 10, a rummy type card game. Phase 10 has grown from initial sales of some 30,000 games to now nearly 3,000,000 a year and ranks as the second best-selling card game in the world. Phase 10’s success has allowed Fundex to grow into many more game categories.
Today, Fundex Games has products in 99% of the United States and several countries. Game categories have expanded to Dice Games, Children’s Card Games, Children’s Board Games, Family Games, Role Play products, Family Domino Games and a line of non-proprietary classic games. Fundex has also recently launched a line of backyard and tailgate games under the brand, Recreaction Games.
Many of Fundex’s game products have been critically acclaimed by independent game testing groups - winning Family Fun Magazine Toy of the Year and has won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio’s highest honor, the Platinum Award.
Fundex has also been involved in licensing as the master toy licensee for the Professional Domino Association and Magic-in-a-Minute. Their Recreaction line has just completed deals with NCAA colleges and was sought out by NASCAR for a line of products.
As Fundex has grown, they have found a need to move into larger and larger facilities. Starting with a small building on 16th Street in Indianapolis and to a leased space on Fortune Circle, now Fundex has their own brand new corporate headquarters in Plainfield, Indiana.
Fundex Games has grown during a time when the toy industry as a whole has declined. At 2005 year end, the toy industry declined 4% to $21.9 Billion (does not include video game sales). Much of the industry decline has been attributed to consolidation of retail outlets resulting in fewer places to purchase toy and game products. Now, 54% of all industry products purchased are bought at Mass Merchant/Discount retailers. The Supercategory, Games and Puzzles accounts for $2.4 Billion of industry sales and is the 5th largest Supercategory.
This year, Fundex will launch new products in card games - Rage, dice games - Shake, Children Board Games - Gassy Gus, and Family Favorites - Hot Potato and Booby Trap.
The Recreaction Games line will introduce Bag Ball, Score Station and licensed products from Collegiate Licensing Corporation (NCAA) and NASCAR.
