Strategy Game Wins FamilyFun Magazine 2008 Toy of the Year Award

Strategy Game Wins FamilyFun Magazine 2008 Toy of the Year Award

(Indianapolis, IN) — Marrakech, a new strategy game from Fundex Games Ltd, has received a Toy of the Year (T.O.Y.) award from FamilyFun magazine. Marrakech was one of only 36 winners of the 17th annual toy test, winning honors in the 8 to 12 year old age group. Marrakech will be featured in the November issue of FamilyFun magazine and on the FamilyFun web site.

Hundreds of toys were distributed to families for evaluation by children in three age groups and their parents. Over the course of several weeks, the toy testers spent hundreds of hours assembling, playing with and rating this year’s hopefuls.

To play Marrakech, each player takes the role of a salesperson who tries to outwit the others. In turn each player rolls the dice and then moves Assam, the market organizer. If Assam stops on an opponent’s rug, the player must make a payment to its owner before putting one of their own rugs on an adjacent space. When the last rug has been laid, the total number of visible rugs and the number owned by each salesperson are added up. Marrakech is designed for 2 to 4 players, ages 6 and up.

This is the fourth year that Fundex Games has earned an award in this annual toy test. In 2007, Monster Under My Bed earned the T.O.Y. award from FamilyFun magazine, as a game category winner in the 5 to 7 year old age group while Alfredo’s Food Fight was a winner in 2005. In 2003, What’s in Ned’s Head? earned a T.O.Y award.
